RACE-ETHNICITY: Combination -- Assumed
DESIGN: Assumed to be Warren and Wetmore -- This firm designed original building of which lighthouse was a part; have come across nothing yet to the contrary.
DEVELOPMENT (1): 1912, begin development following sinking of Titanic
DEVELOPMENT (2): 1913-1967, functioned as designed, "...a time ball...to be raised and dropped every day to mark the noon hour to those watching in the harbor." (Gray, The Times, see below)
DEVELOPMENT (3): July 1968: Lighthouse donated by Kaiser-Nelson Steel & Salvage Corporation to South Street Seaport Museum; assumed by database to be the Start Year as a memorial.
DEVELOPMENT (4): May 1976: funds to erect the Lighthouse at Fulton and Water provided by Exxon Corporation; assumed by database to be the dedication of the Lighthouse as a memorial.
SITE MAINTENANCE: Business/Commerce -- South Street Seaport Museum
LEAD SPONSOR: Auxillary support group -- Seamen's Church Institute
