RACE/ETHNICITY: African-American/African -- Included with the 208,943 U.S. Colored Troops are some 7,000 white officers who also served (SIRIS)
DESIGN: Mr. Hamilton assisted by C. Robert Markert (sp?)
SITE DEVELOPMENT: Start Date -- Assumed to be 7/2/1991, date Washington, DC city council passed resolution endorsing the memorial (SIRIS)
MAINTENANCE: The memorial was transferred to the NPS in October, 2004
THEMES: American Markings Themes -- Bas Relief Works appear on the backside, the family group
