THE STORY: Nature's violence/accidents -- The memorial commemorates a fatal fire that killed 100 people (and injured others) inside the Station Nightclub, on February 20, 2003, in West Warwick, Rhone Island.
DESIGNER ADDITIONAL: Architect -- Thomas Viall
DESIGNER COMMENT: Gates, Leighton & Associates, Inc., is a landscape architectural design firm.
DEVELOPMENT: A 10/12/2009 notice in The New York Times reported the working design may need revision to recognize site maintenance and safety considerations.

SPONSOR(S): Membership Group/Public Contribution -- The Station Fire Memorial Foundation
NATURE OF THE MEMORIAL: Future monument/memorial -- There has been and is a temporary memorial at the fire site, 211 Cowesett Avenue; see mapping feature, below.
NOTE: The sponsoring foundation on 9/28/2012 announced on its website that as of this date it acquired the deed to the 211 Cowesett property. Next steps in the monument acquisition process, especially those related to fundraising, are expecterd to proceed.
