Description
This monument honors Gold Star Mothers of Westchester County, New York. A Gold Star Mother is one who has lost a son or daughter defending the U.S. • The six-foot-plus memorial, a rectangular-shaped, engraved black granite stele stands near the head of Westchester’s Trail of Honor. The trail is a memorial tribute to the men and women veterans of Westchester County and is itself located amongst the greenery of Lasdon Park, a part of the town of Somers • Situated within a plaza-like setting, over-seeing an engraved map of Westchester, the memorial was supported by local citizens, veterans organizations and businesses as well as backed by state, county and local officials. American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., is located in Washington, DC. • The work was dedicated June 3, 2006.
