Description
The city of Rye, New York, honors 15 of its own who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, when terrorists attacked and destroyed the World Trade Center, in lower Manhattan. • The memorial centerpiece, designed by architect Lisa Easton, is a gazebo that includes within it a dedicatory medallion. As well, metal plaques with individual names engraved – and in some cases individual signatures -- are attached, on the inside, to the gazebo’s railing enclosure. • The memorial is situated on Village Green just to the north of the Free Reading Room, along U.S. 1 in Rye. • The monument was sponsored by the citizens of Rye; its September 11th 2001 memorial committee was chaired by Holly O’Neill-Melville. • The memorial gazebo was dedicated June 6, 2010.
