Description
The sculpture symbolizes the contribution, and reminds us of the life, of educator Karen Chanow-Gruen, a counselor at the Scarsdale, New York, Middle School.

• This memorial of metal fabricated into an abstract design and placed on a lawn before a school building in which the CHOICE teaching program is now resident and with which Dr. Chanow-Gruen was associated is situated at Mamaroneck Road and nearby Leatherstocking Lane. The work’s artist is not known at this point. Further, it is suspected that the faintly raised letters and numbers “AHL 76” (bottom right when facing the sculpture) represent a founder’s mark.

• Sponsored by the middle school’s family of friends and colleagues -- and recently resituated by the school district due to construction -- the memorial is estimated to have been dedicated in 1996.
